FG Commends ARCON on Advertising Industry Regulatory Reforms

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal Government has expressed commendations to the Dr Olalekan Fadolapo administration of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) for ongoing modernization and regulatory initiatives across Nigeria’s Advertising and Marketing Communications Industry.
The government said it strongly acknowledged the strategic importance of Nigeria’s creative advertising ecosystem to national development and to that extent, it would work together with industry stakeholders towards positioning Nigeria as Africa’s leading hub for responsible advertising , creative excellence and digital innovation.
Expressing the government’s commendations was the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris while speaking during the formal opening of fourth edition of the annual Advertising Industry Colloquium (AIC) organized by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in Lagos.
Exploring on the Conference Theme, “ The Future of Advertising : The Roles of Platforms, People and Regulations “ the Minister, represented by the Director General, Voice Of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, observed that around the world, technological innovations, especially Artificial Intelligence , digital platforms, big data and Immersive technologies is reducing how brands communicate, how consumers interact with content and how society received information, pointing out that, for Nigeria, this presents enormous opportunities as well as significant responsibilities.
According to the Minister, the Federal Government, under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ‘s administration is implementing bold reforms with a view to build a competitive digital economy capable of creating jobs, attracting investments, and positioning Nigeria as Africa’s innovation hub.
“I therefore commend ARCON for its ongoing efforts to modernize advertising regulations while engaging stakeholders across the industry. Regulation works best when it is constructive and responsive to emerging realities
“I commend the management of ARCON for sustaining this important platform for intellectual engagement Policy dialogue and industry collaborations “
“Advertising has evolved far beyond selling products. It now influencers culture, shapes Public perception, drives economic activities, promotes national identity, and supports democratic participation”.
“Today, Nigeria boasts one of Africa’s largest digital ecosystems with over 170 million active telecommunications subscribers and internet penetration that continues to expand through sustained investments in broadband infrastructure. These developments have created unprecedented opportunities for advertising content creators, digital entrepreneurs and creative professionals “.
Earlier in his welcome address, ARCON DG, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo noted that the Advertising Industry Colloquium had continued to serve as an important platform for bringing together thought leaders , regulators, practitioners, academia and emerging professionals to exchange ideas on the future of advertising and Marketing Communications in Nigeria.
The Council boss noted that the future of advertising cannot be shaped by one stakeholder alone, but rather it requires collaborations that inspire innovation, stakeholders who drive creative and ethical practices, and regulatory framework that promotes trust, protect consumers and support sustainable industry growth.
Through constructive dialogue and collaborations, he noted, “ We can build an an advertising ecosystem that is resilient, globally competitive and responsive to the changing needs of society.
The Coloqquim featured keynote presentations, Panel discussion and Interactive sessions focused on the theme and its implications to the future of advertising and strategic communication in Nigeria.
The event represents an important milestone in the industry’s collective effort to close the gap between the Town and the Gown.
