The figure represents about 8 .7 percent annual growth rate when compared to N800 billion billings estimate recorded as at end of 2005 business year .
Facts emerged to this effect recently during the flag off events for the maiden edition of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON ) Special Recognition Awards (ASRA) for long standing contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) sector
Giving a detailed highlights on the industry business performance record was Chairman ,( ASRA) Awards Planning Committee, Yinka Adebayo while speaking during the media briefing , preparatory to the historic annual Awards scheduled to hold in Lagos, 23rrd October, 2026 .
Briefing Journalists, Adebayo disclosed the industry’s estimated value, stressing that, the size and growing importance of the Marketing Communications ecosystem had made recognition of outstanding contributions critical to sustainable development. He stated that, ASRA was a deliberate initiative designed to complement regulatory enforcement with recognition, noting that regulators should not be
Known for sanctions and punishment only.
“ ARCON needs to be commended for this initiative. The Awards are designed to ensure that people are rewarded for work well done. Often, regulators are known for issuing sanctions. They should not be known for punishments only”
According to him, the Awards would promote responsible advertising practices, encourage compliance with the Vetting process and establish benchmarks for best practices across the industry.
Also speaking, the Director General , ARCON Dr Olalekan Fadolapo explained, the Awards were initially conceived as compliance Awards to recognize advertisers and practitioners that consistently comply with the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP) Vetting process, adding that “ Awards are extremely important because we need to continuously recognize people who have done very well in different areas “
The Council boss further noted that the initiative was substantially expanded following consultations with stakeholders to recognize individuals and organizations whose contributions extended beyond compliance to the broader development of the Marketing Communications ecosystem.
According to him, ASRA was part of efforts to change the perception of ARCON as a regulator primarily associated with sanctions and wielding the big stick.
“ARCON has in the past been more associated with sanctions. We need to change that narrative. As a regulator, we are not regulating to strangulated the industry. We are regulating to develop and grow the industry” he started.
The maiden edition of the Awards , according to the Planning Committee Chairman, Yinka Adebayo, would cut across four distinct areas of critical framework, namely : the advertising compliance awards, Public Sector recognition Awards, Private sector Recognition Awards and Individual Recognition Awards.
